TYPO3 Suite

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the TYPO3 Suite, from access and pricing to licensing and product responsibility. Can't find your answer? Your TYPO3 Success Management team is happy to help.

The TYPO3 Suite is an additional commercial delivery channel for TYPO3 features, with manufacturer responsibility from the TYPO3 Company. It makes it possible to provide, test, and refinance market-critical and project-critical functionality at an earlier stage before it can be incorporated into a public TYPO3 release. The Suite is neither a fork nor a separate closed-source version of TYPO3 CMS.

The Suite gives you a dedicated commercial repository for feature extensions, delivered independently of the regular TYPO3 release cycle. New features and updates arrive throughout the subscription year. ELTS access is included for as long as the subscription is active, and the TYPO3 Company takes on the manufacturer role under the EU Cyber Resilience Act.

Major new capabilities reach TYPO3 CMS with the LTS releases, every 18 months. The Suite delivers selected features as soon as they are ready, independent of LTS dates, for projects that cannot wait for the next LTS version.

The Cyber Resilience Act introduces additional requirements for manufacturers of digital products. These include clearly defined responsibilities, vulnerability management, security updates, and reporting obligations.

The TYPO3 Suite is designed to provide a framework for these requirements under the responsibility of TYPO3 Company. This allows regulatory obligations and manufacturer responsibilities to be handled centrally rather than leaving them entirely with agencies.

The Suite is available for the current LTS versions, TYPO3 v13 and v14. ELTS access is tied to the subscription, not to a specific TYPO3 version. As long as the subscription is active, projects on a version outside its regular LTS phase receive Extended Long Term Support. Older projects stay covered while they are upgraded, and newer projects stay covered if they remain on their version after its LTS phase ends.

Yes. The release cycles and ELTS are unquestionably a major selling point for TYPO3 (see market survey). However, the same survey also showed that they can make it more difficult to remain competitive, particularly due to “maintenance costs resulting from updates.”

The Suite supplements TYPO3 CMS with an additional commercial delivery channel. Since third parties could, in principle, build and sell similar packages, it is strategically sensible and efficient for TYPO3 itself to establish this channel, ensuring that the long-term benefits remain within the project and its ecosystem.

No. The Suite is not a separate enterprise version of TYPO3. It is an additional delivery channel for features that need to be provided, tested, and refinanced earlier. Every feature chosen for TYPO3 CMS can be incorporated into a public TYPO3 release. Features that miss the feature freeze move on to the next LTS version.

The Suite also creates opportunities for commercial product certifications in order to meet regulatory requirements.

The Core Team, and in the future the respective Units, decide based on how well a feature fits the core, its maintenance effort and feature consensus. Features in the Suite are delivered as soon as they are ready, independent of LTS dates. A Suite feature that is not adopted remains fully supported in the Suite. It may still be incorporated into the Core at a later stage.

No. Features initially made available through the Suite can and should be incorporated into the Core after a defined period, for example within one LTS cycle or 18 months, provided they receive sufficient acceptance within the Core process.

Under the EU Cyber Resilience Act, software manufacturers have obligations such as vulnerability handling, security updates and documentation. For maintained LTS versions and all Suite components, the TYPO3 Company takes on the role of manufacturer. Your agency stays responsible for its own code, custom extensions and project integration.

Reporting obligations under the CRA have applied since 11 September 2026. The main requirements apply from 11 December 2027.

Yes. TYPO3 CMS remains free and open source. The Suite adds to the ecosystem without replacing it. Commercial extensions have long been part of the TYPO3 ecosystem, and the Suite is one more offering of this kind.

The TYPO3 Suite creates a reliable framework for regulatory requirements such as the Cyber Resilience Act. In the long term, the quality standards and certifications involved will also benefit TYPO3 CMS, and Suite features that mature in real projects can later join a core release.

At the same time, the Suite contributes to the sustainable financing of the TYPO3 project through the work of TYPO3 Company and potential profit distributions to the TYPO3 Association. Both organizations can therefore continue to support activities such as talent development, training, and events.

There are four paths for a suite feature:

  1. Released in the Suite: New feature extensions are delivered as soon as they are ready, independent of LTS dates.
  2. Adopted into core: Features chosen for TYPO3 CMS move from the Suite into the current LTS development line.
  3. Moved to the next LTS: Features that miss the feature freeze move on to the next LTS version.
  4. Remains in the Suite: Not every feature belongs in the core. The Core Team, and in the future the respective Units, decide based on how well a feature fits the core, its maintenance effort and feature consensus. Features that stay Suite-only remain fully supported.

Features chosen for TYPO3 CMS become part of a regular core release and are then available to everyone. Features that miss the feature freeze move on to the next LTS version. Projects move with them, in many cases with the regular LTS update. Where a feature has evolved on its way into the core, migration paths are designed to keep the effort low.
